Background
TeamMama.com began with a car wreck: local moms, Julie Hussey and Jessica Munday, literally met by accident (or by fate if you believe in a higher power).Their mutual desire to be good mothers while working as public relations and marketing professionals and their shared love for the Charleston area got them excited about using the Internet to connect parents with each other, their community, and in turn their children. The idea for TeamMama.com was given life.
In addition to the TeamMama.com online survey, Hussey and Munday have tapped the minds of local parents through a Meetup.com group and plan to establish a "motherboard" of community leaders to provide insight for the growth and future development of TeamMama.com. Hussey and Munday are even seeking parents and caregivers that do not traditionally use the internet to learn how to make TeamMama.com more welcoming and user-friendly.
Munday and Hussey are not new to community building in the Charleston area. Both were recognized by the Charleston Regional Business Journal's Forty Under Forty in 2005, both have boys, both are balancing business and family life, and both actively look for ways to give back and get involved.
Munday's firm Trio Solutions, Inc. provides planning, marketing, and Web services primarily for healthcare and nonprofit organizations including several family resource providers and MUSC's Children's Hospital. Hussey's public information and community relations firm, Civic Communications Inc., focuses on public projects. Her firm was the public information consultant to the South Carolina Department of Transportation for the construction and opening of the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge.
Hussey is the mother of William, age 3, and Walker, 1 year. She grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and has lived in Charleston for almost fourteen years. She is married to Bill Hussey, a small business owner and professional woodworker. Julie can be reached at 843-224-1096.
Munday is the mother of David, age 4, and is expecting a girl in November. She grew up in Asheville, North Carolina and has lived in Charleston since 1996. She is married to Jamie Holcombe, a professional sportfishing captain. Jessica can be reached at 843-216-0442.
